It's a good return on investment...

Me: It just seems... a bit ambitious.

Him: You get enough wolves together, they can take down a moose, and that'll feed them for quite a while. It's a good risk:reward ratio, any wolf MBA will tell you that.

Me: snrch

Him: Of course, they'll also try to outsource the hunting to, like, hawks or something...

comments

It occurs when an argument's premises assume the truth of the conclusion, instead of supporting it. In other words, it means to assume without proof the stand/position, or a significant part of the stand, that is in question. Given that this dude is talking about establishing a formal risk appetite statement, I am D-Y-I-N-G over here.

comments

Mid-September means that we're approaching the end of the vegetable garden season, so today, cantornocturnis and I headed out into the garden.

Something has pretty much destroyed the last of the courgettes, so we pulled them out. The broccoli went from "any day now" to "shoulda picked that yesterday, huh?", so those went, too.

We lost about a pint of the San Marzanos to my not being up to leaving the house the last couple of days, but we harvested probably about a quart today, and there are many, many more ripening. I expect I'll be canning tomatoes much of the next couple of weeks.

I must say, the carrots and onions have been the surprise stars of the garden. We made the rookie mistake of not thinning the carrots sufficiently, but even so, we've harvested a few pounds of them. I think the dragon carrots have been my favorites. The Florence red onions have also been fantastic. We started harvesting them as green onions and have been harvesting from that bed all season.

I'm sad to report that the peppers have not been going well. They're setting fruit, but something has been boring into them. We simply aren't sufficiently aggressive about pest control, nor are we likely to be.

The fact is, I have an edible garden as a hobby, not as some sort of self-sufficiency thing, and as such, it only receives a hobby amount of time and attention. But, I've had fun when I've been up to doing it, and we've gotten some nice meals out of it, so I'm still going to call it a success.

comments
